Angelina’s Corner: Roundup
Words by Angelina Singer
Capture Me by Thomas Stringfellow
This fun R&B-infused pop song has equal parts delirious happiness and angst about the passionate feelings of a new relationship. I loved the varied sonic dynamics of this song that make it the perfect stadium-ready track to create a sense of sultry ambience and inspire romantic feelings that will last a lifetime.
When You No Longer Hear Me by Otis Kerp
This beautiful country track is so heartfelt despite its sad theme of love and loss. Gentle guitar articulations weave in and out of the vocals, providing some beautiful textures and sonic ideas. I love the full-bodied sound of this song, with all the layers mixed with the grit and honesty of the vocals. A great song to reminisce to, you’ll want to share it with your loved ones often.
Mountain Streams and Autumn Leaves by Mike Kuster
The lead guitar really shines in this track about appreciating nature - a great anthem for the fall season as we reflect on our year so far. I also appreciate the strong vocal performance that is so undeniably country and so genuine in its poetic creativity. While a lot of songs are about dating and relationships, I think this song about the beauty all around us is a welcome breath of fresh air.
Northern Lights by Jon Finnney
This track is full of folk motifs that pay a beautiful homage to a beautiful light show. I also love the metaphor of nature being compared to falling in love - such an accurate, empowering anthem. Bonus points for the intriguing sonic dynamics that round out this not-too-sappy love song with just the right amount of sweetness cut by the delicious edge of subtle pop punk sensibilities.
Yet another song about romance in context with the weather, this encouraging ballad features beautiful vocal harmonies and some wonderful poetry. I especially love the lyrics alongside the dynamic growth of the song and all the textures you hear (and feel) throughout it. Techno elements keep the style current and catchy, with enough heart there for it to still feel authentic. Listen to it loud for an instant mood boost if you’re feeling down.
