Angelina’s Corner: Roundup
Words by Angelina Singer
The perfect fall folk song for reflection and thinking about life, “I Want It All” is a brilliantly poetic tune with a touch of drama added in. I loved the subtle percussion mixed with the elegant string section alongside her smooth vocals. The ambience it creates is so powerful and motivating despite its slower tempo as the vocalist reminds listeners that you can have the relationship of your dreams. Listen for yourself to see what I mean, and watch yourself grow into your best self after healing from a toxic relationship.
This fun love song is equal parts sultry and bright. I loved her bright, glamorous aesthetic and joy, especially as the chorus hits. I would categorize it as a pop folk song that you can dance to in your room. It’s about the unpredictability of life but choosing to enjoy every moment with your loved one anyway, tapping into your own fun and spontaneous romantic side.
Questions I Can’t Ask by Falllift
This one is so heartbreaking in the best way - I was immediately drawn in by the depth of the acoustic guitar work alongside the dramatic lyrics (“Do you think of me when the nights get cold?”). It’s a beautiful, glittering commentary about grieving the sadness after a relationship ends and wondering if the other person misses you too. Definitely a good song to cry to if you’re feeling that sort of heartache. I also love the way the verses are sung by different vocalists to further illustrate the sadness and distance between two former lovers.
The Heart Of America by Cycamore
I loved the hope and joy that comes through in this anthemic patriotic track (and bonus points that the band has openly supported Hurricane Katrina victims). No matter where you find yourself in America, you can agree that unity and kindness to others is the most important part of our home. The country-rock elements in this song give it a much-needed punch as the instruments grow alongside the strong vocal performance. To feel motivated to keep your head up, no matter what comes in your life, listen to this song nice and loud.
If you’re anything like me and move way too fast through life, this song is just the thing to help you slow down and appreciate every moment. The slow, deliberate almost blues-y country vibes help sell the message of taking it easy. There are still some really great sonic dynamics, and I love the texture that the different vocalists bring to the song. Enjoy this song best served with a cold glass of iced tea on your front porch, taking in all that life has to offer.
