Angelina’s Corner: Roundup
Words by Angelina Singer
This fun, quirky track is built from inside thoughts spreading to the outside in the form of bright melodies and a bouncy beat. While I didn’t personally understand the relevance of the album cover art, the build up to the chorus is satisfying and the lyrics are super cathartic for anyone wanting to get their feelings off their chest. Despite the snarky lyrics, I hope you can find something to smile about when you listen to it - because there’s a lot to sink your teeth into.
For a subtle venture into the more sultry, jazzy realm — look no further than this latest track from Cam Elise. With clever metaphors comparing mental health struggles to throwing darts on a bullseye, listeners will feel right at home and understood. A great song for self-reflection and growth while you journal, “Torn” will scratch an itch you didn’t even know you had. Bonus points for the ethereal vocal harmonies in the chorus mixed with Fleetwood Mac-esque angst.
Somebody to Love by Joelle Buyckx
This song is straight out of the 80s in the best way. With light, fuzzed-out synth beats in the background and breathy vocals setting the space for the catchy choruses, there’s so much to love in this song. If you’re a hopeless romantic still looking for your best match, this song will give you hope while you daydream about your latest crush.
This song is so creative in that it’s a lovesong tracking all the ways a seemingly unimportant filler word is used. Basically it’s showing the reciprocity that’s possible in a healthy relationship, and I love the bright, happy folk-style punctuated by the sprightly acoustic guitar and smooth vocals. Haters might say it’s a grown-up version of a Barney the dinosaur tune, but I’d say it’s a lot better written even if it’s just as sweet. Listen loud with the one you’ll love for a lifetime.
This country tune is another love song, but it’s got really poetic lyrics and some great sonic dynamics that really show the emotional upheaval of the story. I absolutely love the way the chorus kicks in, and the overall well-produced instruments punctuated by a slick electric guitar. If you’re in a tricky situationship, maybe this song will give you the clarity and the courage to move on even if you’re a bit sad too.
