Single Review: Neopet by PIAO

Music plays a pivotal role in retaining memories – it has the power to transport us back in time. In her latest single “Neopet”, PIAO uses the power of music to transport her back in time while simultaneously offering us a glimpse of the future of pop music.

On November 2nd, PIAO released her latest single “Neopet” which intertwines retro arcade vibes with modern day RnB and pop to produce an incredibly eargasmic piece. PIAO composed the track to give an ode to core moments in her childhood as well as moments that made her who she is today. PIAO shares the root of inspiration for the single as she states, “a core memory of my childhood was going over to my friend Sharon’s house after school and playing Neopets. These little moments make me who I am, so I wanted to put this simple memory into a song.” “Neopet” is a capsule of her origin, her inspiration, and her character.

“Neopet” is a track that is utterly out of this world – it is so futuristic, yet so retro. Throughout the track, PIAO transforms the background music and incorporates the introduction from her cherished childhood video game, resulting in an energetic and enchanting fusion of nostalgic elements. This is all done within the context of a dynamic pop aesthetic that transports you to a bygone era. The musicality of the track complements PIAO’s vocals beautifully.
