Single Review: Finding Magic by Brainheart & Lord and Land
Words by Angelina Singer
While most songs are about romance (or the lack theoreof), it’s so refreshing to witness a masterful representation of falling in love with your aspirations. Sometimes, the biggest challenge in life is coming home to yourself, and remembering the goals and ideas that pushed you to the place you’re at now. This is what “Finding Magic” by Brainheart is all about.
Pleasant guitar articulations and arpeggios outline the electric dance-style beats without feeling too overdone. With the added warm, smooth-as-butter vocals by artist Lord & Land, this song is a beautifully articulated poetic journey into finding yourself again after a season of stagnation. “All my failures were driven by my pride / sometimes we’ll fall in our own way / we’ll find some kind of magic” is the center of the message. The grand idea of this song is that whatever wasn’t working for you was pushing you towards what was meant for you the whole time. Instead of fighting the process, it’s crucial to go with the flow instead. There’s also an emphasis on self-awareness, suggesting that listeners should “take back (their) destiny” by working on themselves as needed to succeed.
I especially appreciated the way the vocals are front-and-center, super clear in the mix, while the instruments and effects float and swirl around them. This song is masterfully mixed and produced, with an encouraging sentiment that can help anyone find their stride again after feeling lost for a while.
