Angelina’s Corner: Roundup

Words by Angelina Singer

Hello Sister by Naive

This girl-power anthem will hype you up to find the best people in your life - and cut out the ones who aren’t. With driving guitar rhythms and strong vocals cognizant of Paramore or Flyleaf, there’s so much to sink your teeth into in this track - and these three sisters have mastered their sound. With lyrics that flow into beautiful melodies, you’ll be transported into an ambient alternate universe and feel empowered when you get back.

With Me by Zach C-O

This song is a beautifully calming acoustic wonderland of love and loss. I loved the beautifully-articulated guitar licks that weave and float around the lyrics. The vocals are also very smooth and authentic, with just enough rustic tone to feel real. Maybe you can listen to this song and appreciate the love relationship in your life, or remember a great one from the past.

I’m Not Having Fun by Charlotte Chipembere

This ruthless yet sparkling track about a relationship that’s one-sided and lame is anything but. It might seem a bit weird to listen to an upbeat song about something all-too-common and unpleasant, but it’s extremely cathartic and the artist’s vocals really shine through it all. It’s a message about reclaiming your agency and speaking up when your needs aren’t being met, with sonic moments that reminded me of Olivia Rodrigo. Enjoy this track with a heaping plate of just desserts, served cold.

Tears of anger by DecmanP

Beautiful instrumentation and honest lyrics round out this song that’s ironically about anger, with a midwestern-emo vibe. This song will meet you where you’re at, when you’re feeling like a mess and not sure what’s coming next, just know that even anger is an emotion that needs to be felt to get through. Soft percussion and vocals flow together in a musical package that feels complete in its raw uncertainty.

Let This Storm Pass by The Hill

With a simple, but crucial message for life, The Hill brings this thought-provoking track about waiting for life to get better when things get difficult. Somber vocal melodies blend with some different country-inspired instruments and a message of growth. Enjoy this with a cozy cup of your beverage of choice on the nearest porch during a summer rain to see your own personal growth skyrocket.

No Contact by Bruklin

Congrats - you’ve just found your next favorite pop anthem with this latest song from Bruklin. The theme is obvious - going no contact is a struggle, and this song is a relatable message when you’re knee-deep in the healing process of growth after a relationship goes south. Bouncy gang vocals and percussion bring this song to the next level.
