Angelina’s Corner: Roundup

This song feels straight out of angsty 2000s punk music à la Paramore (which takes me right back to high school in their All We Know is Falling album). The lyrics are all about a relationship that’s toxic, but is sadly hard to walk away from. “No baby don’t you fall for the high / it’s like the rain is pouring out my chest tonight” are only some of the very poetic lyrics that are punctuated by delectable palm-muted guitars and lead lines to create the perfect atmosphere of cautious longing. Listen to this when you’re feeling stuck but need the encouragement to break free.
This bright track has all the sensibilities of the fall, with the excitement for a fresh start and all the cozy memories yet to be made. There’s also the added air of nostalgia with memories of high school cited with memories of first kisses and new beginnings. “Stay with me through September / the greatest days of my life” is at the center of the message. I absolutely loved the slightly pop-punk sonic moments as seen in the electric guitar in the bridge. There’s so much to love about this song and I have no doubt it will be the perfect soundtrack for you to make memories with.
This great down-home country track has all the things you’d expect in the genre. A slurred electric guitar greets your ears from the get-go, and then the lyrics start rolling. The song has so many great sonic moments and dynamics throughout, as well as being true to the genre. I also like the way it uses boxing as a metaphor for communication and interacting with others. No matter what social situations you find yourself in, this song will offer a sense of self-awareness to help you get through even the stickiest of situations.
This gritty rock song has so much to sink your teeth (and ears) into. With a deep vocal tone and a ton of angst, this vocalist is telling the story of how he lost his way in life. I absolutely loved the way the choruses open up and bring new colors to the track so it’s not too one-dimensional. The lead guitars in the bridge almost sound like they’re dueling, which adds so much to the track overall. This is a great one to blare out your convertible windows on a sunny evening when you’re on your way to get back on track after some minor (or not-so-minor) setbacks.
This pop rock country jam is built on the relatable ecosystem of a small town and the fact that everyone knows everyone. While this can either be a great thing or a bad thing depending on where you live, it’s a great representation of small-town living and the classy traditional manners that come with it. The vocal performance is strong and powerful, elevated by a slick guitar solo that adds a little bit of edge to a great tune. Whether you live in a small town (or wish you did), this song will resonate with you and transport you wherever you want to go.
