5 Artists To Catch at Festival d’ete de Quebec
Words by Carson Huffer
Tongue Tied has the incredible opportunity to be heading out today to spend the next few days at the iconic Festival d’ete de Quebec in Quebec City. A stacked lineup of more than 200 artists across 11 days, the FEQ has already kicked off to an explosively exciting first few days with acts such as Post Malone, Killer Mike, Nickleback, and the Jonas Brothers tearing down the Plains of Abraham. We’re excited to be covering the next few days of diverse music lineups, read on for the artists we’re most excited to see!
Alexandra Streliski
A local neo-classical pianist, Streliski is widely regarded for her gorgeously composed piano tunes that pull on every heartstring. The July 8th headliner is expected to bring more than 25 other musicians on stage during her set to more than 80,000 people on the Plains of Abraham, offering the Canadian crowd a gorgeous night to frolic in the fields of the city.
Cam Kahin
Alt-rock singer-songwriter Cam Kahin came onto our radar for the first time while looking through the FEQ lineup and we’ve found that we simply cannot get songs like “stay with me” out of our heads. A multi-instrumentalist and producer, Kahin’s music feels raw in how deeply himself it is from beginning to end — creating a vibrant look into exactly who Cam is as an artist and human. We can’t wait to catch his opening set on July 10th at the Loto-Quebec Stage!
Vox Rea
Taking over the Crave Stage on Wednesday night is the sister duo of Vox Rea. An intentionally ambiguous name with no direct meaning, the band morphs various music genres together to create a harmonic blend of sound that is best described as indie perfection. Vox Rea is another new find for us off of the FEQ setlist and we couldn’t be more excited to catch a live performance of “Missed It By a Second”!
Fleet Foxes
Seattle-based indie rock band Fleet Foxes are bonafide icons within the genre at this point, and they’re certainly going to offer Quebec City a show to remember on Tuesday night. With nearly two decades of hits and collaborations, their set is likely to offer a little bit of something for everyone in attendance at the Bell Stage. We’re especially looking forward to hearing “White Winter Hymnal” on the Plains of Abraham and getting to dance along with the rest of the crowd.
Martha Wainwright
A true multihyphenate, Quebec native Martha Wainwright is easily one of the most exciting artists on the lineup. Wainwright’s music is poignant and evocative of a wide range of moments in life, granting listeners a vast berth of feelings to latch onto. Although Wainwright has an unfortunate timing conflict with Charley Crockett over on the Bell Stage, we’re quite confident that we’ll be seeing most festival goers splitting their time between the two sets to catch equal parts of the magic.
Outside of these key acts, Tongue Tied plans on catching as many sets as possible across the four days we’re attending the FEQ, including the excitement of the various pop up shows and free installations held throughout the grounds.
