Feature: Games We Play
Words by Kelly Carrazzone
Games We Play is the unapologetic, in-your-face pop punk band that sneaks up on you and quickly becomes the artist that takes over your daily playlist. This band’s punchy guitar riffs and stunning vocals make you want to flip a desk, quit your day job, and start a new life. No really, their music is that good... you have been warned.
After teasing their new track “Deadbeat” on the Games We Play TikTok account, fans went crazy for the hard-hitting beats and hilariously relatable lyrics. Now, “Deadbeat” is fully released to the world, and you too can experience the punky pop bliss of Games We Play’s latest track. I got to chat with the Games We Play trio about their new song “Deadbeat”, their unexpected TikTok virality, and how pop punk is slowly but surely taking the mainstream music world by storm one song at a time.
Games We Play band is fresh-faced and eager to show the music scene what they’re made of. While the band members have been playing music for years, Games We Play has recently come back with a vengeance and a new, exciting edge to the songs they create from the ground up. The band’s latest track “Deadbeat” is a testament to the group’s gritty, feel-good sound that effortlessly blends old school rock with new age punk/pop undertones.
While TikTok tends to be a hard platform to crack, it seems Games We Play unlocked the power to go viral overnight when they put out a teaser for “Deadbeat” earlier last week. In a TikTok video featuring frontman Emmyn and his wife Dani, the pair are seen dancing, head-banging, and absolutely rocking out to the track. This teaser clearly got fans quite excited for the release, as the TikTok video currently sits at over 1 million views with hundreds of thousands of likes and comments itching for more.
“I was actually hesitant to put out the ‘Deadbeat’ teaser on TikTok. I didn’t want people to hear it and then forget about it before its actual full release. Then of course we put out the teaser video and it blows up overnight so we had to move the release date up. But you know what? I think that’s the best problem a band could ever have!” -Emmyn of Games We Play
If there is one thing you can always expect from the Games We Play band members, it is the unexpected. The guys (Emmyn, Aaron, and Max) are about as authentic as it gets. It’s a sigh of relief to find a band that avoids all the phony, overly-professional efforts in order to appear untouchable on social media. Games We Play pushes that unrealistic standard aside to embrace their goofy, reckless personas and fans seem to instantly connect with the band’s collective chaos.
As rock music slowly crashes back into the mainstream music spotlight, artists like Charlotte Sands, MGK, jxdn, and John Harvie are leading the pack, fearlessly giving the old school pop/punk sound a modern tune-up. Games We Play is a seamless addition to the up-and-coming rock newcomers, as they continue to reshape the rock genre with their fun, brutally honest tracks that prove the band is a force to be reckoned with.
In only a few days, “Deadbeat” has racked up thousands of streams on Spotify and garnered immensely positive feedback from old and new fans alike on social media. During our interview, the band members could barely hold back their excitement regarding their upcoming music releases. Lucky for us, the guys said fans can expect plenty more feel-good, punky pop tracks from them in the near future alongside their usual goofy videos.
“Expect us filming each other, kissing each other, making hella TikToks, a lot of fun stupid stuff. A lot of awesome music. The best is yet to come!” -Emmyn of Games We Play
Games We Play’s latest single “Deadbeat” is the punchy, self-deprecating song that you didn’t know you needed on your summer playlist. This track fearlessly bares all and narrates one’s refusal to sink into their own aspersions quietly. If you’re on the hunt for your new favorite band with lingering hints of artists like 5 Seconds of Summer, State Champs, and All Time Low, Games We Play is without a doubt your perfect match.
Check out the band’s latest single “Deadbeat” on Spotify and Apple Music. You can follow Games We Play’s music journey (and all their ridiculous antics!) on their Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and Youtube.
